Canon Medical Systems Europe today announced that it has signed an agreement with Sense Medical to be the official exclusive distributor of their ophthalmic eye care products within the United Kingdom and Ireland, effective from 23rd February 2023.
Canon’s extensive line of ophthalmic imaging equipment spans cutting-edge digital retinal imaging systems, optical coherence tomography systems and tonometers as well as a host of software suites that allows single and muti-site network solutions including DICOM to PACS. The new partnership will see both companies increasing the already high standards of the Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and Retinal screening market across the UK and Ireland.
“The new partnership with Canon is a unique model for us, which sets us apart from normal distributorship. Canon is a global medical imaging brand, with direct and indirect presence on the global stand. Canon Eyecare has always been a ‘premium’ brand that all clinicians and medical photographers are very familiar with and we want to build on that strength in the UK and Ireland markets,” says Abdul Jahangir, Managing Director at Sense Medical.
Sense Medical already has an established reputation within the NHS market, and this is sure to result in major growth for Canon. In particular, with the latest generation of Canon Xephilio OCT technology.
Xephilio OCT-S1 is the only commercially available Wide Field Swept Source device in the market that can be fully networked to a server and provides OCT scan of 23mm in one single imaging acquisition. Such advanced technology will be synonymous with ophthalmic researchers.
Xephilio OCT-A1 is a high-resolution OCT with a digital resolution up to 1.6 um (3um optical resolution) combined with SLO imaging technology, fully automated and allowing tomography scan in only 2 seconds. Superior image quality and a host of automated features optimize and simplify your examinations, increasing your workflow efficiency and your patients’ comfort.
Xephilio products will be showcased at this year’s 100% Optical event on the Canon and Sense Medical stand (M420) and the Royal College of Ophthalmology (RCO) event later in the year.
“We were looking at the UK market as one of the major markets for eye care imaging growth and now with Sense Medical existing expertise in retinal imaging and strong customer care, we are confident that our new partnership will benefit our existing and future customers. We have widened our product scope over the years allowing us to serve both the NHS hospital market and high-street retailers,”
says, Adel Bencheikh, Canon Eyecare Director.
