Haag-Streit UK (HS-UK), the leading manufacturer and distributor of gold-standard diagnostic and surgical devices and instruments for ophthalmologists, optometrists, and orthoptists, is pleased to announce the return of the Haag-Streit annual Slit Lamp Imaging Competition.
Now in its seventh consecutive year, the international competition invites participants to capture and showcase the beauty of the eye through outstanding slit lamp images and videos. Open to everyone, and inviting entries spanning all eyecare conditions, the competition offers an exciting opportunity for slit lamp enthusiasts to demonstrate their talent in return for generous digital cash prizes and widespread industry recognition.
Over the years, the competition has attracted over 1000 submissions and produced some spectacular images. Winners must impress the judges with the quality, technical execution, and pathological interest of their entries.

This year’s panel sees the return of competition judges, Marc Curchod, Jesús Conejero, and Jacqui Kenyon. Joining them for the first time is medical imaging specialist Cynthia VandenHoven and Haag-Streit’s Marcel Meyer. Together, they bring many years of professional experience in using or implementing imaging solutions in clinical practice.
In 2024, the competition received entries from around the world, with representation from 23 countries. Last year’s winning lineup named Utpal Sarkar, from Disha Eye Hospitals, India, as the overall winner of the imaging competition, while Ostap Horobiuk, Naykrashchyi Zir Ophthalmic Center, Ukraine, was the overall winner of the video category.

Marc Müller, of Saarland University Eye Clinic, Germany, and Seraina Tanno, from Lucerne Cantonal Hospital, Switzerland, secured second and third place in the image category, respectively. All winning images were taken on a Haag-Streit BX 900 slit lamp.
Competition co-founder and former judge, Frank Wenger, Head of Product Management, General Diagnostics, commented: “Since its launch in 2019, the Haag-Streit Slit Lamp Imaging Competition has changed the way we look at ophthalmic imaging. By elevating the slit lamp camera into an innovation platform, the contest allows us to celebrate content that isn’t only medically valuable but also an artistic expression.

Competition timeline and entry
The Slit Lamp Imaging Competition 2025 is open from 1 April to 1 August 2025. Winners will be officially announced on 1st October 2025, via Haag-Streit UK’s social media channels. Full information is available on the competition entry page.
