Taking place on Monday 19 May at The Hilton Liverpool (L1 8LW), just a stone's throw away from 2025's RCOphth Annual Congress, you will be able to find the wonderful team from UKISCRS hosting their Cornea & Cataract Day.
Our co-editor, David Lockington, who recently took the baton of UKISCRS President in November 2024, will be hosting the event.
Promoting education and research in the field of cataract and refractive surgery, UKISCRS strives to advance and promote the study and practice of ophthalmology to the wider community. Divided into four sessions, the C&C Day promises to offer a substantial programme with a host of presenters.
Introducing the programme, Dr Lockington reveals that “the event will cover a variety of topics, including paediatric cataract, myopia control, complex cornea approaches, refractive surprise options, surgical pearls, debates on practice options, inside and outside the NHS, and so much more!”
The first session commences at 9am, following the President’s Welcome. Delving into the everchanging world of refractive surgery, the first session offers four presentations chaired by Allon Barsam and Johnny Moore, and closes with a discussion with the participating speakers.
The second session, ‘Cornea’, begins at a 11am, with the transparency of the topic at forefront of conversation. Similarly structured to the first session, session two covers four specialised areas within the field and features talks on ‘Crosslinking controversies’, ‘IOL options in keratoconus and irregular corneas’, ‘Who CAIRS?’ and ‘Updates and tips for DALK surgery’.
After a break for lunch, the second half of the programme maintains the event’s impressive line-up with the third instalment focusing on cataract procedures. Connecting a diverse range of subspecialities in the sector, there will be something for everyone in this session, from myopia, binocular vision, to surgeries in paediatrics.
The fourth and final session of the day brings to the forefront ‘Practising outside of the NHS: The options’ with an introduction from Laura Crawley and Bita Manzouri. Following her recent Eye News feature, ‘Charity work in Cambodia: Culture, cataracts, and cruelty’, Bita’s international work is known to us, and so we’re incredibly excited to see what she brings to the conversation of UK-based ISP providers. Featuring an interactive approach, the session starts with a debate on the focussed topic, before introducing three subspecialists; Amar Alwitry, Simon Hardman-Lea, and Paul Ursell, to discuss their own personal insight into the theme. Again, the presentations will spill into a closing discussion.
The day’s conclusion will welcome back UKISCRS President David Lockington, who will make the closing remarks. The UKISCRS Cornea & Cataract Day promises great insight and advancements in the field of ophthalmology.
