On the three days of UKISCRS, my IOL gave to me…
Sparkles and great company,
Trainees and mentors shaping who I’ll be,
Insightful talks and memories to cherish endlessly!
I had the privilege of attending the inaugural 48th Annual UKISCRS Congress 2024, celebrating 75 years of the intra-ocular lens (IOL)— an innovation that has transformed lives and the field of ophthalmology. The IOL was designed by Sir Harold Ridley and as an honour, ophthalmologists from across the globe attended the celebratory event where topics such as artificial intelligence and lens designs will revolutionise the next 75 years of cataract surgery!
My highlights of the conference included the Young Ophthalmologists Programme. From mastering IOL calculations to exploring techniques for improving cataract surgery, it was inspiring to learn alongside fellow trainees.
The Gala Ball was another unforgettable highlight. Beyond the glamour, it was all about connection. I met new friends, reconnected with colleagues, and even had a heartwarming reunion with my elective supervisor from medical school—a moment that brought my journey full circle.
Reflecting on this experience, I’m leaving with fresh motivation an a renewed appreciation for the incredible community in ophthalmology. UKISCRS wasn’t just a conference; it was a celebration of progress, collaboration, and the vision we are shaping together. Here’s to the next 75 years of IOL innovation! #ukiscrs2024
I am incredibly thrilled be been named a joint first winner in th Digital Influencer Competition. Being part of this once-in-a-lifetime event was already a privilege but winning this award has made it even more special! The Congress inspired so much creativity and camaraderie, and it was a true joy to reflect on the incredibl journey of innovation in ophthalmology.
A heartfelt thank you to the UKISCRS Society for fostering such a collaborative and innovative community, and to the amazing UKISCRS Society Manager Gill Williams for organising another exceptional conference. My gratitude also extends to outgoing President Paul Ursell for his leadership and to David Lockington, whose upcoming tenure as President promises an exciting future for UKISCRS.
The connections and inspiration from this Congress reaffirm wha makes the #eyefamily so unique. Here’s to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in ophthalmology—and sharing the journey along the way!
