This study aimed to evaluate the vascular structure of the choroid in multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C). This was a prospective study of 38 eyes of 19 patients and 60 eyes of 30 healthy controls. None had ocular pathology. Using spectral domain OCT, five measures were taken of choroidal thickness: subfoveal, and nasal and temporal quadrants at 500 and 1500μm from the fovea, along with intraocular pressure and axial length measures. T1500, luminal choroidal area and choroidal vascular index values were significantly lower than controls. The authors acknowledge their small sample size and therefore were unable to undertaken sub-population analysis. They conclude, for MIS-C, the choroidal vascular structure is affected in the early period, specifically a decrease in luminal choroid and choroidal vascular index. These measurements show potential for use in evaluating possible vascular changes in the follow-up of these patients.
