This is a 10-year, retrospective, patients record review from Leeds, UK. Twenty-one eyes had repeated CXL and the mean interval between primary and repeat CXL was 47.1 months. Twenty (95%) eyes stabilised after repeated CXL at a mean follow-up of 29.9 months. One-hundred-and-fifty-one eyes were compared as a control group after primary CXL only. Patients failing primary CXL were significantly younger (21.3 years vs 26.7 years, p=0.0008). Primary and repeat CXL induced a similar amount of Kmax flattening -0.7D vs -1.2D respectively, p=0.22. The authors concluded that repeat CXL is safe and effective for progressive keratoconus. Younger age may be associated with failure of primary CXL treatment.
