The authors explain that the white spot syndromes form a group of inflammatory retinal disorders with distinct lesion distribution and progression patterns. Multimodal imaging has revealed unique phenotypes, enhancing our understanding of their specific features. The authors highlight the concept of secondary white spot syndromes which occurs in presence of other chorioretinal diseases and opens a new window in possible pathogenetic hypothesis. They suggest that a revised definitions of some white spot syndromes will contribute to our knowledge of the natural history and prognosis and may aid in patient management and treatment decisions.
